Benjamin Claudel Nancy, France, b. 1971

"I work mainly in a graphic way: with pencil or pen. My inspiration comes clearly from the old master engravers and fascination for dreamlike atmospheres."

Claudel studied graphic design at the prestigious Parisian school Olivier de Serres, before completing two years of study in Decorative Arts in Strasbourg.

His techniques include primarily woodturning, gluing, sculpture, and inlay, occasionally incorporating graphic and colorful interventions. His inspirations are diverse, ranging from natural and organic forms to both traditional and contemporary art.

Alongside his work as a graphic artist, he developed an independent practice in his workshop, exploring forms and volumes rooted in the traditions of the Arts and Crafts and decorative arts.

His approach to this field is largely autodidactic, enriched through close relationships with master craftsmen and collaborations on a variety of projects. His work is particularly connected to the region of Neufchâteau, a recognized center of excellence for woodworking, craftsmanship, and creative practice.
