Preston Daniels Los Angeles, b. 1983

"I use intense light, desolate space and saturated color that often allows text to simply emerge from the canvas. Dry flat surfaces, open sky and baron land are frequently punctuated by a reference to water. These are parched paintings. Wandering the deserts, thirsting for something."

Preston Daniels is a Los Angeles based artist who creates sculptures, paintings and functional

works that meander near the body and the environ. Employing bold colors, ubiquitous items,

text and synthetic structures, Daniels's work often becomes curiously figurative while

completely absent of the human form. He presents objects and compositions as brightly hued

characters and images that engage the distinctions within artificiality, organics and humanity.

Preston Daniels was born in Virginia in 1983 and currently lives and works in Los Angeles. He

attended the Chautauqua Institute School of Fine Art, graduated with a BFA from West Virginia

University and an MFA from California State University Fullerton. Ha has collaborated with film

maker Tim Burton and worked as the studio assistant for artist Richard Jackson. Daniels has

held solo exhibitions with Phantom Galleries and Six Pack Projects Long Beach, Andi

Campognone Projects Pomona, Mark Moore Gallery Los Angeles and Spring Break Art Show Los

Angeles.
